Quoth The Raven....

For a couple of years now, our Halloween decorations have revolved around Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven.  Why?  Because we have a cool vintage typewriter!  :-)

And, because I have a lot of black birds in my Halloween decor.

Since I knew we would be having a Halloween party, I felt I needed to pick up a few other things in the decor department...so I headed over to Target.  They always have some really cool decorations, most of them being very reasonably priced, especially in their dollar bins.  Even though it's pretty darn close to Halloween, I think you could still scoot on over there and pick up any extras you might need...but I digress.

These were our invitations...

...yes, I made up the silly poem...LOL

These two guys are my favorites...

...just because they choose to be different!

The hubster wired the cigar onto Skinny Willie's bony neck...

...so that when you move his head, the cigar changes to the other side of his mouth.

My granddaughter, Gianna, wanted to know if any of these creatures would bite at your hands when you tried to get food or candy.  Sadly, no, they don't, but, most of the things around the house and at the table do moan, groan, and move when you get near them.

Our menu includes:

Sausage eyeballs
Piglet toes
Witches fingers
Roasted slime
Brains with bacon chunks (cuz bacon makes everything taste better)
...and assorted other disgusting side dishes.

No cute stuff for us...all gore at our house...sorry Kimberley, you can turn your head if you need to!  :-)

  7. OMG...could you have put that disclaimer at the top of your post for me and not at the bottom...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (that's me screaming!)...I should have known right from the start when your raven/crow was named Quoth and mine Charley! Ah ha ha, that says it all. I don't mind Skinny Willie, it's his friend that will be stuck in my head tonight when I 'try' to go to sleep...and that creepy doll at your fireplace...and I DO NOT want to know who Lenore is!
...moving on...puppies and kittens...puppies and kittens...la la la la...'Her name was Lola, she was a show girl...'
I love your invitations and would still come to your party...you would just have to 'sauce me up' and I would be ok...well maybe you would also have to spring for a therapy session or two afterwards!!
Have a Happy Halloween and an amazingly spooky party!! :)
    Hugs, Kimberley (a.k.a. scaredy-cat)

    1. Yes, I should have put it at the top, but then you would not have read all the way through the post…LOL You are hilarious and totally make me laugh out loud. I read this to the hubster and he almost spewed coke out of his nose…LOL Too bad I couldn’t capture Skinny Willie’s friend…he made all sorts of movements along with flashing eyes and moans/groans. He was a perfect host at the party! ;-) It would have been great if you lived closer and could come to the party and yes, I would have definitely sauced you up so that you wouldn’t be afraid. The hubster worked hard on the creepy doll....she was a perfectly normal doll….until she found herself in the hands of Dr. Frankenstein..LOL. Barry Manilow is pretty scary himself with that nose of his…LOL Hope you had a wonderful weekend with Charley! Love and hugs to you!!

I hope you have a great party. Do you already have a ton of friends after moving so recently? I'm nosy...ha!

    1. Thank you so much Jane! You are not nosy at all…LOL. I haven’t made lots of friends here in TN because we seem to be traveling a pretty good bit, so it’s hard to settle in. I did make some wonderful acquaintances in the neighborhood we just moved from and still keep in touch with some of those girls. Here in the new “hood”, I’m working on it. :-) The little party over the weekend was to get acquainted and to start a foundation for some new friendships. I enjoyed meeting everyone and hopefully, we will start our new book club in the next month. I still have all of my old friendships in Alabama and Texas and try to keep those going. My best friend lives in Wyoming….I just seem to have peeps all over the place…LOL Hope you had a wonderful weekend…hugs!!

  10. Eeeek! Kimberly isn't the only one, who needs to turn her head!!! Oh sigh.... I can't "do" all the gore and etc. But that wired cigar has to be pretty cute. (Yeah, always siding with the man! I hear you! -giggles-

    Enjoy your party!!!

It's quite alright if you side with Edward..he enjoys that someone occasionally takes his side! ;-) Hope you had a wonderful weekend! Love and hugs to you!!

  11. I knew it would be fabulous. I'm not a fan of things that jump out or move, but the pictures of them don't scare me ;) My daughter is a huge fan of Poe and would love them whole theme. I do too ;) I LOVE that typewriter!

    Have a great time!

    love to you,

    1. Thank you so much! The typewriter is one of the hubster’s “pride and joys”. He had a collection of about 17 when we got married, which has now whittled down to 2. They are cumbersome to move around and we had nowhere to display them. We love Poe also…very intriguing guy and the story about his dead was so sad….but most of the time it is with writers and poets…Sylvia Plath is another…and her son followed in her footsteps. Sorry, convo for another time. :-)

      Love and hugs to you!!

I so wish that we all lived closer so that we could share these things….I mean, y’all get to see the “behind the scenes” of everything…so why not be able to enjoy the front side of it, right?! :-) It was fun and no one was afraid…much…LOL Hugs!!

  14. This is so fun, and I love that the cigar moves in skinny Willie's mouth, hahaha. My 30 yr old is planning to be Edgar Allan Poe this weekend for a party (she wanted her husband to be her Raven, bahahaha. He said no, imagine that).

    1. LOL…how funny that you think I would keep it….but I did...LOL. Here is the full invitation poem.

On a black night dark and weary,
We had to move and we’re so weary.
      Even though the weather’s bleak,
Our new neighbors we’d like to meet.
On All Hallow’s Eve we plan to gather,
But please don’t worry, fret or lather.
You will find no tricks, only friends and treats,
Some will be savory, some will be sweet.
The doors will be open from six until eight,
There’s no need to run off, you can stay late.
Please let us know if you’ll be able to attend,
As we are excited about all our new friends.
