Just To Shake Things Up...

...a bit, I have decided to tackle a project, because my life has been pretty boring lately. ;-)

Here's my disclaimer:  These are the WORST photos in blogging history.  I snapped a couple just so you would have a before photo.

I had this table that needed a new look....

....you can read about it's brother (or sister), here.  At our previous home, we used it in the office and the wood-look was fine.

But I don't like the wood-look for the landing at the new house because it is so dark in this space, so I decided to paint it.  Now here is where my brain gets a little dicey.  I decided to purchase 2 sample paints so that I could try to make up my mind about what color to use in the downstairs half-bath....you know that small remodeling project I can't seem to get to??!!  Anyway, I thought this table would be a good place to try to get an idea of the color.  These are the 2 paints, Cathedral Stone and Distant Valley...

...anyone besides me thinking that there might be some color difference between paint on a wood table and paint on a sheetrock wall?  Yeah, I figured that out.  Nonetheless, I had the paint and I'm not wasting money.

Last night, while we were watching Office Space for the 745th time, I put on a coat of Cathedral Stone.  Tonight, I will sand it and put on a second coat and hopefully have an in-between photo that I can show you.  Stay tuned....

  1. Benita's Decorating Rule #1: Never let a piece of wood remain the color of wood. (I'm curious what our log cabin will look like when the time comes.)

  2. Haha, Hubster :) I think Benita is just economical. And my personal rule #1 is "never let drywall remain the same color for longer than about 1 year". Change is good!

  3. Can't wait to see it finished! And as the old saying goes, "it's only paint"... if these two colors don't work, find another, lol! But they are great colors... hope they do well! :) ~Rhonda

    1. Crafty...HA...not me...LOL. I hope it turns out decently. I got the first coat of gray on and it is dark. I will sand it down and put the light blue on top of it, sand it some and see how it looks. If it still looks too dark, then I will sand some more and add a coat of white. It will be the table of many colors and Dolly can write a new song! :-)

  7. You go, girl! Last year I didn't know one thing about paint. I just had to jump in, make mistakes, and learn as I went. So will you.

    1. Thank you ma’am! I’m learning about painting furniture. Walls are easy and I am definitely learning as I go…sometimes an extra coat is required, but that layered look is in style, right!?! :-)

  8. hubster's comment made me laugh.
when the 'antiquing' craze hit back in the dark ages of my early married life...
NOTHING wood was safe in the house. i antiqued everything.
    i love painting things...
    walls... furniture... whatever.
anything but ceilings. HATE painting celiings.

    1. He kills me and thinks he's so stinkin' cute with his little comments...LOL. Antiquing is very pretty...my mom did it to our kitchen cabinets. They were cute until she decided to put some mushroom appliques on them...then it was a disaster...LOL Oh, I hate ceilings also...they make my body ache because I'm so short and have to get such a long extension or a tall ladder..which terrifies me!! Hugs!!!

You just moved in. How can you have a remodeling project already? Or did I miss something? :-)

    1. LOL….I want to change the half-bath downstairs. And those were Edward’s exact words….we just moved in…LOL. I had been planning this prior to moving in though. ;-) The half-bath has no storage and contractor grade fixtures. Edward keeps rolling his eyes…LOL Hugs!!

  12. Hi Benita! :)
The first thing I noticed was how small your garbage bag was...he he...now, if that was me...I'd have paint all over that nice carpet! ;)
Cathedral Stone is a really nice color...I can't wait to see it all done!
    It will be beautiful!! :)

    1. Hi Kimberley…LOL….it is small…the hubster is very nervous and has offered an “official” plastic drop cloth for me to use. I turned him down and told him I would live dangerously. :- ) I like the Cathedral Stone also, but after 1 coat, it is very dark on the table…going to sand and then hit it with the blue color. I hope it turns out decent….my poor little ego can’t handle any more failed projects…LOL! Hugs!!

  16. Yay Benita!!! So happy to see you tackling painting furniture. I was so nervous about my first project and I was just painting it white against a gray wall. Not too much of a difference between the two, but with the accessories and accents you can see the differences in the two colors. :) Can't wait to see you transform your new home my friend.

    1. It seems that I can paint the larger things…it is the smaller things that trip me up…LOL I started out with gray on this table, but have had to lighten it up with white…the gray was just too dark by the time I got everything back on it. I am hoping to get the finished product posted this week! Thanks so much girl!!
