Lone Star Lonesome....

Yesterday, I shared a few things I missed about Alabama.   So, you know what that means?  Today, I will share a few things I miss about Texas...remember, it was all about the alphabet, not which state I missed more. :-)

My daddy has always said I have a lead foot and that I love to hammer down on the gas pedal...so naturally, I would miss this...

Sammy Hagar and I have a lot in common...neither one of us can drive 55!

One of my favorite antique spots...

...Lone Star Antiques in Haltom City (near Ft. Worth) is one of my most favorite places to shop.  You can "antique, junk and flea market" all in one building.  I never, ever leave empty handed!

Our loft....

I loved the time we lived here.  It was so different and interesting!

This store was one of my favorite grocery stores...it was always clean, you could earn discounts on gas purchases and my most favorite thing about this store...

....a free magazine full of recipes each month!

The best nachos in Texas....

...are served in this restaurant!  Every time we are back in Texas, our first meal is here.

 And of course....

....my girls!

Question: where all have you lived and what do you miss most?

  1. Oh, such sweet memories! I have only lived in NY state, just different towns. I so miss my sweet 1900's farmhouse that was in an apple orchard with an orchard lane lined with poplar trees. It was across the street from Lake Ontario. I could go anywhere in the orchard to pick any variety of apples. It is where I raised my two daughters.....sigh.

  3. What a lovely antique store, Benita! I don't think I'd escape without being loaded up either. My favorite place I've lived so far, was Albuquerque, NM. We went to the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, and my office faced the Sandia mountains, which is Spanish for Watermelon, because when the sun sets, it turns Red. It was beautiful to see every night. There were four seasons, and it wasn't to far from a ski resort, we loved to go to. I miss California, but every time I go back I feel bad, because of the traffic, the fires (the draught), I miss my family and friends, and the beach, but I just really don't feel like moving back, oh and too expensive.
    hugs, Christine

    1. It is one place I go every time we return to Texas. That sounds absolutely gorgeous!! I would love to see that. We enjoyed Albuquerque when we traveled through last year. Four seasons are nice to have, that's for sure. In Texas, sometimes you get 2 and sometimes you get 3 1/2...LOL I've always wanted to visit California but would not want to live there...for the last reason...toooooo expensive!! Hugs!!

  4. I'm a boring girl, born and bred in the same tiny little town. My kids go to the same schools I did and shop at the same stores, yada, yada. I did escape its tiny boundaries when I went to college, but even then, I stayed in the state. I just moved to a colder, tiny town. Like I said, boring. I know, but it really is the sweetest place and it's a beach town. I don't think I could move away from the water, seeing the ocean every morning is what feeds me...but not literally, I hate fish.

    1. You are anything but boring!! I lived in the same area, went to the same church, same friends, everything, until I met Edward. It was scary leaving but now that I’ve taken the leap, we enjoy the new places we live. I think it all has good points and bad points. Seeing the ocean every morning is definitely not a bad thing. I’m a mountain person, so if someone offered me a place in the mountains, I don’t know that I would leave again! LOL @ hating fish…there are a few that I eat, but not many! And I hate the smell! :-)

  6. I want to visit Texas-planning a trip in the Fall to go watch a FB game and visit Magnolia Farms. I have lived my entire life in CA and always by the beach. I am very much a CA kind of girl, but would love to visit all the states some time.

    1. Let me know when and where you are headed. We will also be back in the fall! :-) I’ve visited the Magnolia store and it was so great. They are building the huge facility and I will be so glad when it’s finished. Should be something to see and something for everyone! We’ve visited about a quarter of the US…I’m sure we will hit them all within the next few years!

  7. Now I want some nachos LOL I have a lead foot too ;)

Lets' see... get ready because it's a long list lol

Arcadia, California: I was born and raised there until 15. I miss the giant Oak trees, the taquitos on Alvera street in LA, the Santa Anita race track and the Arboretum (they filmed parts of Fantasy Island there)

Santa Ynez, California: I lived there until I was 17, moved to Pasadena, and back again to my own house when I was 18 and then lived down the road in Solvang until I was 25. I miss being close to Santa Barbara and the ocean.

Fun facts about that time... In pasadena I lived for one year right down the street from the Rose Parade and only caught the tail end, because I overslept. In Santa Ynez, one of my best friend's dad originally owned what was eventually called Neverland when Michael Jackson bought it and we had prom there.

I lived in Pacific Grove, California and then moved up the street into Pebble Beach until I was 30. I miss everything about the area, including Carmel, except for the constant fog.

Mechanicsville, Virginia: I lived there until I was 35. I miss nothing, except being able to smoke cheaply and in restaurants LOL

Delaware, Ohio: I lived there until I was 38. I loved the beautiful old downtown.

Xenia, Ohio: I miss the street I lived on and sometimes the house. I don't miss the tornado warnings.

    Now I'm here :)

    xoxo,
    rue

    1. Those states are so vastly different in every single way!! LOL So you've experienced a lot of culture in a short amount of time. How cool is that to have a prom at Neverland...I bet that place was something to see!! My sister and BIL saw their first Rose Parade this past year...said it was something else! I've always wanted to visit California...we want to go to Santa Barbara, San Francisco, LA, and Napa Valley....just to get a taste of California. When we drove to Las Vegas for a meeting last year, we visited Albuquerque and Phoenix and trickled over into California (Nettles), had a stroke over the price of gas and jumped right back out...LOL.

Tornados (and the warnings) are NOT enjoyable...they are terrifying, but it seems I'm destined to live in a state where they are frequent.

Quite an interesting jump of living places indeed, but so many wonderful stories to share!! :-)

      Hugs!!

  8. My husband would love to live in Texas again. Told me he wanted to be buried there. As if! Honey, if he goes first I'm planting him in TN where I can visit him and talk, and be planted next to him.

I understand how he feels about Texas, it's kind of expected from a Texan. I feel the same about the mountains of NC. If all the family would move there with us I would be living in a small town off the Blue Ridge.

I would love to visit Texas someday. Ever since I saw the movie Giant I've wanted to experience those wide-open spaces. But for longterm, just back up against a mountain!

Don't move back too soon, Benita,

    1. Texas is a great place and does have so many wide open spaces…you can see for miles in one direction because it is so flat! The hubster was born in Alabama but raised primarily in TX and considers that his home. We will go back one day, but no time soon. :-) The mountains are something I love and would move and live there in a heartbeat. We just returned from Pigeon Forge and went up into the Smoky Mountain State Park…I was in heaven the entire time in those hills and didn’t want to leave at all!

  10. Hi Benita! :)
I loved reading about Alabama and now about Texas!
That antique store looks amazing, heck I would buy everything just in that photo alone! ;)
I moved around a lot during childhood and my husband and I have had two big moves for his work...one that took us far away from friends and family on the East Coast of Canada, where we are from to Central Canada outside of Toronto and then all the way to the USA here in Illinois - a HUGE move for us!
And like you miss Alabama (family and friends) I miss the East Coast more every day, the moves get harder for me instead of easier it seems!
Thank you for sharing your story about Alabama and Texas, I loved getting to know you a bit better!
    Hugs, Kimberley

    1. Thank you so much Kimberley! Both states have some interesting things going in…albeit, what I know about each is relatively small. I’ve always wanted to visit Canada and hope to be able to do so one day! Moving definitely has its advantages and disadvantages. Have a great day! Hugs!!
