Best Laid Plans.....

I had planned to share the cornbread we made with the stone ground corn meal we purchased in Gatlinburg, TN.  But you know how it goes, sometimes plans change and you just can't do what you planned to do.  Have I mentioned how ready I am for this closing and move to be over??!!

We found out yesterday that our closing may be delayed, once again, because of some issues with the appraisal! UGH!  It just never ends.  We spent most of our day in back and forth conversations with our realtor, the lender, our realtor, the builder's realtor, buh blah, buh, blah, buh blah.  AND, I found out that my hormone medication is no longer being manufactured and production will not begin again until....wait for it.....NOVEMBER!  The hubster was thrilled with this information!  What that means is that I get to go through closing, moving, blogging, my birthday, Columbus Day, Halloween, Veteran's Day and possibly Thanksgiving with no hormone medication!  Gonna be some fun times in Nashville.  You've been warned!

Now, on to today's post.

I've shared some of these videos before, but I wanted to share one more with you today.  I loved this woman!  She reminded me so much of my grandmother and I thought she was so adventurous to wait until her 90's to start her online cooking show and to write her cookbook!

I hope you all enjoy Clara's recipes and her stories!

  1. Oh I love her too! I like her twice bakes potato recipe! Oh no, I am sorry about the closing...and the medication. Yikes, have you tried meditation or yoga? I do it (inconsistently) but do find that it helps what ails you.

    1. She has a recipe that my grandmother used to make all the time....pasta and peas! To this day, I cannot stomach an English pea...LOL Thank you, and no I haven't. I've been meaning to start a Yoga class, but I just haven't made the time to do so. I need to do it for lots of reasons, but mainly to keep the hot flashes under control!

  2. You will close Benita, same thing happened to us....Seems like it's all part of the game! I hear you on the hot flashes, my appointment isn't for another month, and I'm trying to bear them with this heat wave is making me so sick in the late afternoons, I pass out under the ceiling fan! Ugh! I love her videos, and peas, my husband doesn't like them either! Italian Ice sounds perfect right now! hugs, Christine

    1. It seems like they enjoy making you sit and wait and push you right up against every deadline you have! We've explained to them that we have to be out of this house and we have an office to move...frustrating!! LOL I'm so sorry about your hot flashes...they do make you physically sick and then you are unable to sleep at night...that's why I love cold weather. You just step outside and immediately cool off...LOL The Italian Ice does sound wonderful! We are having some cooler temps right now...hope they move your way soon! Hugs!!!

    1. Thank you so much girl, you’re so sweet! How horrible with the hormone’s….it seems as though it is roller coaster and there is no getting off…LOL I wish someone would have it. It is the manufacturer…they have temporarily stopped making it…no one knows why! I love Clara…she was just the sweetest lady and always had so many interesting stories to tell! I hope you have a wonderful day!! Hugs!!!

  4. Benita,
This does happen way to much of the time-delayed closings, but it still doesn't help how you are feeling.
I am thinking like, Kim-can you go on a jog, a long walk, mediate...any of these things-I'll cross my fingers that things will work out sooner than later.
    We are here for you!

    1. Thank you so much Jemma! These people kill me...they push to sell houses and then make you sit and wait on their schedule....total craziness! We finally got out of here for a few minutes last night, away from the packing, phone calls, boxes....and I'm feeling much better today. The temps are cooler for a bit, so that is helping also! :-) Thank you again so much! Hugs!!

  5. She's amazing! I've got to see if someone can adjust my sound higher as I struggled to hear her. Don't you love how confident and sure of herself she was? Accepting her own pace?

So Benita, just pretend to be Clara until that Rx comes in--go at your own pace, find that calm zone. Is this when you're mentally choking me?

Surely though, there has got to be a supply of it somewhere?

And unfortunately, no. But they are looking for some temporary alternatives for me, which is a great thing! :-)

  6. Getting into a house is always stressful. Something always falls through or doesn't go right and things get put off. Drive a person crazy. Particularly if they're out of their HRTs!

  7. how adorable!
i want to watch more of clara!
i noticed that particular one was from 2011.
i hope she's still alive and as well as she looks in this one.
and... horrors! i went through menopause with NO meds of any kind... because they thought it would cause blood clots (have a problem with those. one killed my dad at 45) SO... i lived in HOT FLASH CITY
for umpteen YEARS. i thought they would NEVER END.
so i feel for you. never had a problem with the emotional bit.. but oh those hot flashes. UGH.

    1. Clara was wonderful. Sadly, she passed away a couple of years ago, but all of her videos can be found on YouTube. She has wonderful recipes and so many wonderful stories. I could sit and watch her all day….as a matter of fact, when the hubster and I first found her on YouTube, we spent the better part of a morning watching her videos. She eventually wrote a cookbook that includes all of these wonderful recipes. I keep meaning to order it, but haven’t so far. Maybe after the move.

I don’t know how you stood it. My sister has the same problem…blood clots and can’t take any medication. They have put her on 200 mg of Zoloft to try to control the menopause…it’s killing her. The hot flashes are the worst and those affect my mood because you are just so flippin’ hot you are irritable. And you have a bazillion of them every 2 seconds…UGH….Thank you so much my sweet new friend!! Hugs!!

  8. Hi Benita. Thanks for the introduction to Clara...what a cutie she is! I was particularly impacted by how she kept mentioning that even though people didn't have much back then, they were happier. That really says something about our generation and the ones after ours...
I'm sorry to hear about your closing and those darned hormones. Hot flashes are the pits. My husband just can't understand why I NEED him to turn the a/c on I the car RIGHT NOW! Ugh, the joys of womanhood.

    1. Julie, you are so welcome! We enjoy her stories and recipes so much and I wanted to share her hoping that you all would love her also. It does make a huge statement about our life today. I think we have so much in our society that there is no way to be truly content...something new comes around every 10 minutes. Thank you so much! The closing will happen or we will walk away...we've told them our deadline and we can't budge past it, so hopefully that will make them get things done quicker. The hot flashes are the absolute worst. Edward has finally understood that when I say NOW, it means 10 seconds ago...LOL Yep, the fun never ends...LOL

I'm so sorry about the house issues. I know how frustrating it is and I feel for you. Take a deep breath, darlin'... it'll all work out :)

It is frustrating but will definitely all shake out. We got out of the house for a bit last night and they seems to have helped my attitude tremendously…for a few hours anyway. :-) Thank you so much!! Hugs!!

  13. This may be a bit of a long shot on your hormone meds but you should check with the mail order pharmacies in Canada. I have read reports that seems like we sell a lot of drugs to Americans I think some of our drugs are cheaper and our Cdn dollar is only worth about $0.75 US right now. I also think many of the major drug companies have totally separate manufacturing plants in Canada as our labeling laws are a bit dif so it could be you can find a supply of it up here. I am more of a natural/herbal person so don't really have anything solid on this just know it exists - sounds like it would be worth your time to check it out. I have no experience with these companies but you can look up the drug online to see if it is a possibility. Tip sometimes drug trade names have a dif name up here so if you can't find it listed on the webpages below Google your drug to see if it has a dif Cdn name. Good Luck!

    1. Thank you so much for the information! I've heard that people have good results with out of country pharmacies, but I've been leery of ordering out of country as I barely trust the stuff we have here....LOL, but thank you so much for the suggestion. When we traveled to Mexico, you could purchase all varieties of prescription medications in the airport, and that was pretty scary. I'm not big on taking medication, as I prefer natural as well. I was so resistant to go on any type of meds for the menopause, but I couldn't stand the hot flashes and the not being able to sleep. I felt like I was walking around in a fog most of the time. What I have been taking has been extremely low dose and I can't even take it every day, but only a couple of times a week. Since this has come up, I'm going to go ahead and explore the bio-identical medication or see if I can find something more natural with oils or herbs. Thank you again so much for the information! I will do some Googling to check it out! That's what I love about the internet!! :-)

  14. Oh noooooooooooo... Closing delayed again!!!!! :-(((((

hormone medication "snaffoooooooo"... If it's manufactured, it doesn't sound like natural hormone replacement therapy. Have you ever considered that?

I'm familiar with this, since our compounding pharmacy does this.

Naturally, one has to find a physician, accepting of this, to write Rx for testing, and etc.

Luckily, here there are such physicians.

    Just sayin'...

    1. It seems that it is the norm for closings to be delayed repeatedly. It sort of frazzles the nerves a bit, but we are moving along with the packing...come rain or shine! :-)

It isn't natural, but it is a very low dose...1.25 mg. I had thought about doing the bio-identical HRT before we left Texas, but then we decided to move and I haven't gotten back around to it, until now. As soon as we get settled, I will be finding a doctor who can prescribe so that I can go to a compounding pharmacy and get exactly what I need for my body! I think I will like it so much better. Even with the low dose, I can only take it every couple of days, rather than daily! Thank you so much for looking out for me...believe me, it is much appreciated! There are some days I would just rather chew on a tree root than swallow that pill! :-) :-)

  15. Re: Ordering drugs from Canada

As I said, we run a family pharmacy. Have 2 pharmacists in family. They know pharmacy. And drugs.

When you order meds from Canada, not all have to comply with our FDA rules. So doing this, is RISKY.

    Just sayin'......

Loved this video! I will look up her other ones on YouTube too!
Sorry to hear about your closing mess up, sellers always have you right where they want you and dealing with banks and lawyers is no easy feat if there are delays! Dang it! Hopefully it will just all come together the way it's supposed to! Fingers crossed!!
As for the hormones, that's not good about the meds! Being a woman is so fun...
