Shake, Shake, Shake....

I've been telling you all about that wonderful milkshake that I drink every day with our new fitness plan....I know you were beginning to think it didn't exist, but it really does!!

While there are quite a few pre-made shakes out there to use, I prefer to make my own because I can control the sugar, carbs, calories, etc.   Here is the recipe I use for my daily protein shake:

1/2 scoop EAS Soy Protein Powder (Chocolate)
1/2 cup Silk Almond Milk (Light)
2 teaspoons Benefiber
1/4 medium banana
1 tablespoon of Hershey's Dark Chocolate Powder
1 cup ice

I put all of these ingredients into the Ninja cup, screw on the lid and blend!  If it seems a little thick, I will add several drops of almond milk. I drink this right after my morning workout to feed my muscles some protein.  In a pinch, this shake can also be used as a meal replacement. Sometimes, when I'm feeling a little adventurous and need some extra calories, I use the Silk Nutchello Milk...OH. MY. GOODNESS... it is so chocolatey, rich and YUM!!

This recipe is versatile.  You can use a whole banana, a whole cup of milk, and an entire scoop of protein powder.  I want low calories, low sugar and low carbs, so I use smaller portions.

The EAS Soy Protein Powder also comes in vanilla flavor.  The change I make for vanilla is to eliminate the Hershey's Dark Chocolate and add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.  I will sometimes add a little apple pie spice (to taste).  Either shake is absolutely delicious and helps with not feeling deprived of the things I enjoy!

As always, please, please, please speak to your doctor before you alter your diet or start an exercise program, especially if you have issues like high blood pressure or diabetes.  The things I have shared on my blog are changes that work for me and for the hubster.

Outside of menopause, I have no underlying health issues.  Of course, the hubster says I'm closer to dead than he is (with his high blood pressure) as my resting pulse is only 57, which in his words is "barely above ground"...LOL.  That is probably why it is taking me 3 times longer to lose a few pounds!!

  1. Aside from the banana, which I'm allergic to, this looks great! Sharing with my daughters - they make smoothies pretty much every morning!

    1. Thanks so much! You can literally add or take away anything you want. The hubster adds apples, carrots, peanut butter, honey, etc. He changes it up and he's not had a bad one yet...well, except for the time he added strawberries and they were sour...LOL Love and hugs to you!!

  2. I have been loving protein shakes in the morning. I am not a big breakfast person so these seem to help me control being hungry by lunch and give me the protein I need too. This is a good recipe very close to the ones I have been doing. I freeze my bananas so they make the shake creamy instead of adding ice.
Thanks for sharing this I am going to try that Nutchello Milk. Not sure if they sell that by me but definitely going to look. Happy Friday.

    1. I love them also and you are so right, they keep the hunger at bay and I definitely need the protein. I usually have a protein shake, boiled egg and 2 pieces of turkey bacon. If I’m really hungry, I will add a piece of multi-grain toast. Light lunch and light dinner follow. We freeze the bananas sometimes also…it seems to make the shake sweeter also. I have a hard time finding the Nutchello Milk because it sells out so quickly, so good luck! Have a great weekend! Love and hugs!!

  3. This looks like what I need. I am never hungry until several hours after I'm up. I get in breakfast/lunch and then a little snack before dinner at 7:00 p.m. And I'm ravenous throughout the evening. I know it's just a snowballing but I literally can't begin to think of food early. I'm going to give this a shot. Hubby was big on smoothies and we have a Ninja tucked away. Maybe I can get him to bring a shake to work. He needs to gain!!

    Thanks pretty lady!

    1. You are so welcome! It is a great combo shake because you can take away or add calories as needed. I’m never hungry right when I get up, that’s why I workout first and then fix this after my workout. It’s perfect timing and just enough to fill me up. If I’ve had a hard work out and am hungry, I add some turkey bacon and multi-grain toast and make a meal of it. It keeps me full until lunch. I used to get really hungry after dinner also and would snack, thus the weight gain. Now, if I’m still hungry, I fix one of these and it seems to settle me down…LOL. Love and hugs to you!

  4. The shakes sound really good. I tried a similar concoction by Arbonne and after going through a whole a bag of the powdered mix, I started getting sick to my stomach from it. It was probably overkill for my POST menopausal body!! I would love to have something like this again because I struggle with what to eat in the morning!

    1. Yeah, I can't do the Arbonne stuff either. I've not been able to handle anything premade. With this, I can control the amount of everything. The directions of the protein powder tell you to use an entire scoop, but I can't. So I use 1/2 and it works for me. I'm not a breakfast person and this works perfectly after my workout or if I want to use it as a meal replacement. If you try it, I hope it works! :-) Love and hugs!!

  6. How did I know you would that video in your post! ;) Looks good. I am sucker for anything with chocolate in it. Or chocolate by itself. Same thing, right?

    1. HA...it was an easy choice. Some of the other ones I saw were a little R-rated, so I left those alone...LOL. Yes, you are so right! Chocolate by itself works with other pieces of chocolate...at least in my world...LOL Love and hugs!!

  7. The shake sounds really good! I tried them for awhile, but they just weren't that tasty. I'll have to give them another try with your yummy suggestions! Congrats on the weight loss! That's awesome! :) ~Rhonda

    1. Rhonda, thank you so much! We are pleased with our progress and hope to be able to continue the trend! The soy protein tastes so much better than whey protein. The bad taste has been my problem with pre-packaged protein shakes and they contain tons of sugar. The soy definitely makes a difference. Love and hugs!!

    1. It is definitely a treat and the bonus is that it's good for you...LOL. While I'm working out I keep telling myself that I have a yummy milkshake waiting when I'm done...that motivation helps me stick with it! :-) Our weather was a bit chilly over the weekend as well, I loved it! Love and hugs!!

  9. I am going to try your version as it seems like it might taste like a double chocolate frappuccino (or crapa-chino as I like to call them to remind myself they are poison) and then I could delude myself I've been to Starbucks. Thanks for the recipe.

    1. You are so welcome!! Add the entire banana to make it creamier…I have to watch carbs so I only use part of one. And, add some extra dark chocolate…you will love it! Love and hugs to you!!

    1. I really like Almond Milk. I have lactose issues so this works great for me! Since I don't get enough fiber through my diet, I have to add it in. Not a necessity for those who eat a better variety of food. Love ya!

  12. Woot Woot...I am so glad to see you back! :) I just went back and read your last few posts to catch up on ya! :)
You are Lactose Intolerant? Me too!! We drink a shake every morning during the work week and I find that it keeps me fuller longer. We use hemp protein because a lot of the other ones I can't tolerate (soy too)...
Congrats on your healthy kick start and loosing that much weight is amazing!! Using the aps is a great way to track everything too!
Haven't heard that song in ages...love it!!
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving friend...I am going to try and get a longer email off to you in the next couple of days...I have been thinking about you a lot!! Big Hugs!!

    1. So glad to see you are posting also and thank you so much! No big surprise that we are BOTH lactose intolerant...LOL Birthday twins, right?? I love the shakes because they do keep me from snaking, which causes most of my weight gain....well, that and not exercising! LOL The exercise is such a big part of my daily routine, I feel weird when I don't do it. I'm really glad I can tolerate the soy. I don't know that I've seen hemp protein before. Is that in the US also or just Canada? Yeah, the song is a huge throwback from childhood days...line dancing at it's beginning...LOL You have been on my mind alot as well. Looking forward to catching up! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving also (even though I know you don't celebrate it up there)...I will have an extra piece of turkey just for you! :-) Love and hugs my dear sweet friend!!

  13. This shake looks great and very adaptable. I will have to try some different versions of it, as well. Protein is something that I am trying to bump up, so this would be an effective way to help with that. So funny about your hubby saying you are barely above ground ;) Enjoy your holiday tomorrow, and I hope you get to indulge in all of the goodies that are a part of the feasting!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and get to spend lots of time with your family! We both plan to indulge a little...LOL Love and hugs to you!

  14. to all people and the whole lot is a discovered talent. It takes a chunk of practice before everything, but once you get the cling of it you'll sense like you have got been given your existence returned. So those are only some time-hacks that allow you to get again into a steady exercising recurring. keep in mind, you need to be doing "some thing" in the way of exercising each day. cardio exercise like on foot, walking, or using your motorcycle you could do each day. if you are lifting weights. For more ==== >>>>>> http://musclegainfast.com/ion-z/
