Plain Jane Bedroom...

I gave you a little photo snippet yesterday of our bedroom.  Not much to see in the photo.  Hey, it was a teaser! :-)

Before I share other photos, I will give you a warning.  You will not find designer styles or brands in our bedroom.  It is not an interior designer's dream bedroom or even a popular style.  But it is ours and we love it.

Our bed is black as are our night tables.  So is our chest-of-drawers.  So is the frame of the mirror propped against the wall (dang, I forgot to take a photo of that...LOL)  It is not a brightly lit bedroom as it is on the back of the house.  There is a thin line of trees that separates our yard from the neighbors behind us.  There is a door that leads to our screened porch and the dimness of the porch contributes to the lack of light in our bedroom.  It is the perfect place for sleeping in on those dreary, rainy Saturday mornings.

While there are no designer elements here, what you will find is a place where the hubster and I discuss the day's events before going to sleep...a place where we play silly word games on our phones....a place where we have our Elf "tickle fights"....a place where I cry over our children and discuss worries with the hubster.  You will find a place where we play chase after someone gets popped with a towel while he's brushing his teeth.

If you walked into our room during the night, you would find water bottles covering each night table.  We both awake during the night thirsty....me due to menopause...him, just because he's thirsty.

You will usually find books, as we sometimes like to read before going to sleep.  The hubster has read to me and I have read to him....no, no, not at the same time.  :-)

You won't find clothing or shoes strewn about or a bed left unmade.  What you see in these photos is how I leave this room every single day...well, minus the food and drink.  Have I mentioned I'm wound a little tight and have an OCD problem? ;-)

I feel it is important to walk into our sanctuary, our place of solace, and not see a mess from earlier in the day...to walk in and know that we can immediately relax and shake off the work day.

So, enough of that sappy stuff....

You will notice an empty frame on the photo ledge...a project will be going in there as soon as I pick out the one I like best.  My head is swimming with ideas, so for right now, it stays blank.  And what you can't see on the LOVE canvas, is the price tag.  I bought it on sale and am still not sure it will stay...I'm thinking on it....you know, mulling it over.  The drop cloth curtains are still hanging in there...get it..."hanging"....wow...tough room.

This little set from yesterday's photo...

....was a find over the holidays.  I bought the vintage pitcher at a flea market, along with a creamer that looks very similar.  The two little gold mugs (one is hiding) were Target bargains.  Throw these things on a wood slice with a couple of plates....et voilĂ ...a vignette is born!

Let me tell you...I tiptoed around this room while that hot chocolate was on the bed.  I would be in a straight jacket today if that pitcher had fallen over...LOL  Have I mentioned I'm wound a little tight and have an OCD problem? ;-)

So there you have it...one room down.  I will post when I put something in that frame...it won't be much longer now because that empty frame is driving me crazy.

  1. LOVE it! I have already decided that my next bedroom in my next house will be black and white...the walls white, the furniture black. On one of my thrifting outings this past summer I stopped in the most adorable farmhouse to find that the woman had decorated the whole inside black and white. IT WAS GORGEOUS! I could see just a peek of her bedroom so I asked if I could look and she let me. The bed and all the furniture were black with white walls and white carpet. Stunning. I vowed then that that is what I wanted someday. Lucky you to have it now. It looks so inviting! Many sweet dreams in that beautiful room!

    1. Thank you so much AnnMarie! Oh, I bet that was just gorgeous! I love black/white also and think those colors are always in style...timeless...and always seem so clean and crisp looking! You can put any accent colors with them also! I've decided I want white walls in the next house, with dark hardwood floors. This furniture has traveled from Texas to Tennessee and held up very well. One of our guest bedrooms also has black furniture with a gray coverlet. The other one, when I get around to getting some furniture, will be white with white accents. I am going to fix labels for the door...The Black Room on one, The White Room on the other...LOL Thank you again so much! Hugs to you sweet friend!

  3. I've been threatening to paint our bed black and after seeing yours, I really really want to now. So pretty! I'm a little ocd too... We have a window in the center of a wall in our bedroom and I struggle!!! trying to figure out what to put on each side. The sides have to match...I am going crazy. I was thinking of using big empty frames and put our initial on each side... I don't know! Lord help me LOL!

    1. Black is such a versatile color...much like white, you can pair anything with it. I think the empty frames with the initial would look good. I have to have things matching also. But for some reason, our non-matching lamps don't bother me....LOL

  4. Benita, I love it, and the way you wrote about it! And your "love story" piece is perfect there because you both have a memorable and romantic love story!

I do love peeks into blog friends' rooms!

  5. Well Benita if truth be told I too am a bit OCD. I think its the Virgo in me. No doubt anyone who ever saw the interior of my house would know I love moody and dark. Soooooooo needless to say I love your bedroom. It is one I would feel very comfortable in. Nix designers, hey I do interior design and I've gotta say there is NOT ONE designer our there when it comes to their own house that doesn't second guess each and every decision.

I am loving the deconstructed French chair. Not aware if it awaits re-upholstering or if it's a design statement like where we relax is a work in progress, but anyway I simply love it. I am enjoying your share and keeping it honest. Take your time with that frame fill it with something very meaningful to you and your hubster. Like perhaps the numbers of your wedding date in a soft black on a tad lighter background than that yummy wall color you chose.
    Sweet dreams sweet woman.
    xoxo,

    1. Thank you so much Vera! I teeter between dark/moody rooms and light/bright rooms. I don’t seem to have an in-between. Must be what my husband tells me about myself…that I have no in-between point…it is either one way or the other. :-)

That chair is a chair that I stalked for several months…waiting for a markdown to take place. When it finally did, I snatched it up. I love it the way it is and while it would be beautiful re-upholstered and made whole, I think it has so much more personality the way it is. For the time being and maybe longer, it will stay in its current from. I picked up some items to try to work on something to keep the LOVE sign company on the photo ledge. If it works, I will show it on the blog…if it doesn’t, I will show it on the blog. I try to be a good example or a horrible warning….LOL Thank you again so much Vera! Love and hugs to you! :-)

    1. Thank you so much Miss T. You are so very kind and encouraging. Order is definitely important...my brain seems to demand it so that I can think. And you are so right...order is so calming. When there is chaos, I can't function and my brain refuses to work. :-) Love and hugs to you!

  7. It's a very pretty room, Benita, and it does have design style - and don't anybody tell you otherwise! I'm a lot like you - OCD - make the bed as soon as my feet hit the floor.

  10. You're moving really fast since you moved in if you have one room completely done. We've been in our house 5 years next month and I can't say anything is actually finished. Sad face. The room color is very pretty, especially with the black furniture.

  11. Your bedroom is lovely, and your lucky to have such a larger room. Rooms at the Charmer are small. I've been in my house for 27 and there are always projects to do...You know I don't have anything black in our home but very much like your bed.

    1. Thank you so much Cathy! I love the small, quaint rooms of a cottage and our next home will hopefully be a cottage. This room actually looks larger than it is. I had never used black in our home until about 4 years ago. Now, I'm hooked! :-)

  12. Your bedroom looks cozy and calm! I always make my bed too, but I usually have clean laundry sitting on the bench at the end of the waiting for me to put away--not my fav thing to do!
