This Was Not How....

.....I planned to show you a few photos of the kitchen, but sometimes, things just happen.

The other night I put some eggs on to boil so that we could have them for breakfast the next morning.  The hubster headed out to the garage to do whatever it is he does out in the garage and I headed upstairs to think about a blog post and watch a Hallmark movie.  Now the hubster has always maintained that The Hallmark Channel is evil...because women forget about everything else when they are watching a Hallmark movie.  I've argued that his statement is not correct, that we just escape from our lives for a few minutes....for a much needed rest.

I'm sorry to say that I lost the argument, as I ended up escaping for much longer than I anticipated.  After hearing a couple of gunshot sounding pops, I ran downstairs (if you follow me on Instagram...well, you know the story) to this...

I know...it wasn't pretty...all over my beautiful floors....and microwave....and cabinets...and walls....and ceiling.

You would think that after I heard the first "gunshot" sound, I would have jumped up...nope, not me...Hallmark had me in its icy grip.  It wasn't until the second pop that I was spurred into action.  The hubster ran into the house at about the same time.  The first words he said were, "you want me to get the camera for photos for the blog?"  Ummm, no, this is something I definitely wouldn't be sharing on the blog.  After a minute or two, I said, "just take them with your phone."  So here we are..phone photos of the catastrophe in the kitchen.  There are still pieces of egg falling from the sky!

In addition to having "egg on my face", I also burned a perfectly good bamboo trivet and had to bury the saucepan in the back yard (FYI...there were originally 6 eggs in this pot).  We've erected a small monument in its honor.

Have I mentioned that the hubster is a fire investigator and has investigated many, many a house fire where someone left something unattended on the stove?  Do you think I've heard the end of this?  NOPE!  He's lurking....like Jaws...just waiting for me to say something about a mess he's left behind...so that he can bring up the "egg-splosion"!

  2. The same thing happened to me, many years ago, but I think I was on the phone with a boyfriend at the time. I was surprised at that loud sound and to find out that eggs exploded like that. This is also when I discovered kitchen timers, by the way... :)

    1. The sound is awful isn't it??!! I had no idea either..I knew they would explode in the microwave, but had no idea they would on top of the stove. I use the kitchen timer for everything else, now I've added another thing to use it for...LOL

  3. Oh No Benita. Not good and especially with your fire inspector hubby. I once left the house with candles burning and thought when I got home "Oh God how embarrassing it would have been if the Fire Chief's house burnt down"!!!!! You will never live this down lol!

    1. OMGosh Tina, you are so right! The smell was nauseating!! We had to open the windows and the doors and turn on the ceiling fans trying to get the smell out of the house. I fear we lost the "new house" smell because of this ordeal. And you are right...it comes up every single day...LOL

    1. That is hilarious!!! Oh what a mess you had on your hands, but you are right, it was contained…LOL. And yes, the house is now properly christened and I don’t have to worry about messing something up. It’s “broken in”…..No longer need to worry about fingerprints or scratches or the small nicks in the wall I’ve been fretting over. It’s okay to laugh…we’ve been laughing…LOL Much love and hugs to you!!

  14. My husband has told me many, many times that one day I'm going to burn the house down. Why? Because I've done what you did, AND other stuff too. For me, it's not the TV that distracts, but the computer. But let's be honest here, it's their fault. They should be the ones overseeing whatever is going on in the kitchen when we're otherwise engaged. Especially your hubby, since he's a good cook ;).

  18. I'm actually the one who freaks when my husband walks away from the stove (and he rarely cooks). Once he went into the den while he had a can of chili cooking. I went about my business and let it burn until it was black and the kitchen was filled with smoke. I hope that taught him a lesson but since he never cooks, I may not find out for awhile.

Sorry you had a mess to clean up but it was still a great story! :)

Now I don’t have to walk around on pins and needles worrying about messing something up! :-) Thank you so much…it is definitely one to share with the kiddos…LOL Hugs!!

  26. Oh Benita, and here I was waiting to see pics of your new kitchen! Well, you started my day off with a bang, and R.H.'s too, him looking at me and nodding and totally aligning himself with Hubster. I've never forgotten boiled eggs but oh the number of times I've boiled a pan of tea water down to the finish. And then there was that time I drove to pick up the kids at school, forgetting that I had a chicken poaching. We decided to go to the mall after school and we could smell scorched chicken as we came down the driveway.

Hallmark Channel is the glue that holds all of my cousins together. We unashamedly watch every Christmas movie marathon every year, even the most corny ones and then console each other on FB that the time spent saves our sanity and makes us the loving beautiful kind women we are. And our husbands better be glad that we love that channel because we could be watching Bruce Lee movies or Steven Segal movies the way they do and nobody would be getting along.

October 31st, that's when the new season of Christmas movies begins!

    See you there,
    Dewena

    1. All these men kill me…taking up for each other…when they know they are wrong….LOL We are laughing, as it is all we can do about it now….and continue to pick up the little pieces of falling egg. Scorched chicken? Probably about as appetizing as our eggs! 

I love the Hallmark Movie Channel and it is always a requirement when we are searching for a cable company…no Hallmark, no go! Those movies are a regular in our house…much to the husbster’s dismay. But he has sat and watched several of them because the producer/director of most of them are the same ones who did Lonesome Dove…one of his favorite movies. The hubster knows that if I watched Bruce Lee or Steven Segal, he would be the target of all of my “kung fu” moves, so he keeps me away from those…LOL.

Got it on my calendar! You can come over any time and we can plop on the sofa and eat popcorn and drink hot chocolate! :-) I won’t be cooking eggs though! LOL

      Love and hugs to you!!
