On The One Room Challenge....

Let me tell you....I just love you!  You are all so wonderful and I am so thankful that you are honest, feel free to speak your mind and, whether you realize it or not, verbalize all of the thoughts and concerns I have.  I know that is why we all get along so well!

It appears that unless a lot of things fall perfectly into place, I am not going to be able to meet the deadline for Linda's Calling It Home: One Room Challenge.  We have just returned from a week long business trip (which included 2 days of 14+ hours on the road), are exhausted and have found out that we are going to be out-of-town for a another business meeting over the next two weeks.  All of this puts a serious kink in working on this bathroom....and because we were gone all last week, no work was done.  This week we are prepping for our Halloween party on Saturday night...

...and the bathroom will need to be available for our guests, which means no demo work and no paint cans in the floor.

Additionally, as most of you stated in your comments (which I will be responding to today), I don't want to "just settle" for something on a vanity.  I really do like the lines and shape of the vanity I showed you on Saturday...

...but I would like to see some other choices and I did have my heart set on some sort of dresser for the vanity.  The fact that we have to order this particular vanity is also a serious slowdown in work time.  While I know we could push and get it done by the end of the challenge deadline, I don't want to be frazzled and hate this room before it's over.  The husbter has stated repeatedly that the nail gun is not a weapon and he is highly concerned about my frustration level during this project, especially without those hormone meds (yes, Tessa, we have discussed it...LOL).

So, all of that to say, please don't be too disappointed in me if this project is not finished by the challenge deadline.

Now, on to the winner of that giveaway...

I had the hubster pick the name out of our Halloween bowl.

Congratulations Darrielle at DD's Cottage!  I will get this little set off to you this week!

Just an FYI, the mums died just in time for Halloween.  Which just goes to show, you CAN kill a plant if you don't water it! ;-)

  1. Benita,
It is all ok if you do not meet the challenge. Life gets in the way of blogging progress sometimes. We all understand. I know when you do get the bathroom done it will be gorgeous. Have fun at your Halloween Party this week end.

    1. Thank you Kris, and I am good with it...I've taken this off my plate. If it gets finished in time it's great...if it doesn't...it's great. As long as I am finished before Thanksgiving, when my parents will be up here. :-) Thank you so much...I so wish you all could be there! :-) Hugs!!

  2. i think dead mums will be PERFECT for your party!!!
just put them near the skeleton. he'll feel right at home with them!
i'm relieved that you didn't succumb ... pardon the expression...
to the stress of going ahead with the bathroom challenge. life is more than that.
and there will be other invitations to 'do a room!'
i'd say REST should be on the pre party menu somewhere there! XOXOXO♥

    1. I like the way you think…dead mums are perfect!  And killing plants is one of those things I do best! LOL

I think I would have succumbed before it was over with and would end up sick in bed and not able to complete anything! So, if it gets done, great….if not, great! I’m happy either way and will have a nice little remodeled bathroom when the project is over. AND, it will have the things I like rather than the things I’ve settled for because of a deadline!

And yes ma’am, there will be some rest on Friday AFTER the Rocky Horror Picture Show event at the local theater! :-) Gotta do the Time Warp before Halloween scoots away! :-) Love and hugs to you!!

  3. Hey, we are only one person, we can only do so much! That's funny, that's pretty much what my post was about today, also.....and you do need to take your time - you will be the one living with this space and you need to be very happy with all your decisions. Not just pushing to make a deadline. Good call, Benita!

    1. Exactly! I am getting around to reading posts in the next few, so I will be over to enjoy your words of wisdom. With work, projects, blogging and our business travel schedule, I would rather do things right and get it finished later rather than sooner and be happy with the end result! It’s all good for me! :-) Thank you so much! Hugs!!

  4. I don't know how you are even doing half of what you do with such a crazy work schedule! And you are planning a party? You've gotta make my Candy Corn Oreo Bark that I just posted today. It's a Halloween-y treat!

  5. FYI, you have to water mums at the side. You can't just pour water on the blooms. Just so you know for next year.

  7. Hey lady!

I would fail a one room challenge and I know it. It's taken me almost 4 weeks to finish my painting alone LOL Please don't kill yourself or the hubster ;)

I hope you take pictures of the Halloween Party decor. I've been watching your pins on pinterest and can't wait to see what you do.

I'm not even touching the egg debacle :p

I've missed you so much! I really loved catching up with you, silly girl :)

    much love and hugs,

    1. Hello chick!! I know you have had a major project going on and cannot wait to see how it all looks. I've so missed you and am so glad you are almost finished with painting at your house! I will be taking photos this week once I get it all pulled together...I've got a mess right now..LOL Yeah, the eggs were a mess and a mess I do not want to repeat again! I've missed you also and glad we were able to chat! Much love and hugs to you my sweet friend! :-)

  8. Well, I'm laughing my butt off at the hormone talk and the nail gun! I'm glad you are putting the project aside to find it's own pace, that way you can enjoy your dead mums and the party. Dead mums are the best, dead ivy, too. Trust me, I know. I'm a plant killer, too. Congrats to Darrielle on her first win!

    1. LOL…yeah, the hubster is concerned about that nail gun being in my hand without my normal hormone meds…LOL And I’m loving the dead mums right now…I hope it stops raining long enough so that I can spray paint them black. LOL @ plant killer…we need to start a club! :-) Hugs!!

  9. Hmm...yup, I don't think your Halloween party guests would appreciate your bathroom being in pieces...especially if you are going to have all that creepy décor out and scaring the 'crap' out of them! ah ha ha...oh wait, that would be me if I was your party guest...or no, I'd be crying rocking myself in the corner...one of my favorite songs to sing to myself when I am afraid is 'Her name was Lola, she was a show girl'...I have been known to sing that to myself on the plane...TMI? Uh, ok...moving on...
Have you tried looking on Craigslist? I know you will find something and once you get the vanity then it will help you decide on the other colors!
Have fun scaring everyone at your Halloween party! ;)

    1. LOL...you are hilarious!! And yes, you would be scared if you were at our party. The hubster has all sorts of little hidden things ready to make noise when someone walks past a table or something. Good old Barry Manilow....at the Copa Cabana...LOL THAT is your go to song?? Hilarious!!

Yes, I've been cruising Cragslist list like a stalker...LOL It will come together and all fall into place when I find the right piece. I'm moving it to the back burner until the party is over, then will focus on getting that bathroom challenge done and off my plate! :-) Wish you lived closer...I could use your Goodwill skills!! Big hugs back at ya chickie!

  10. Hey...you did good, lady! You were working from the bottom up and all in a brand new spanking house! Give yourself some space. And to be on a timeline not your own? I can't imagine. Still, kudos to you for being up to the challenge. I can't wait to see what you do with your new home.

    Congrats to D.D.!!

Thank you so much…..I appreciate the encouragement from all of you…otherwise, I would be chastising myself repeatedly for not being able to get something done on time…I’m weird that way…LOL Everything with the house is slowly but surely falling into place and we are enjoying it so much. This little bath will be the next to last major project that needs to be done. The other is getting some furniture in the 2nd guest bedroom! :-)

I’m so excited for Darrielle since she’s never won anything on a blog before! Hugs to you too girl and I so hope you are feeling better!!

  11. Bless your heart... maybe this is a time to just step away (especially from the nail gun before anyone gets hurt, ha), and take a breather! Who needs deadlines anyhow... as long as the potty is usable, you're good! It'll come together all in good time! :) :) :) ~Hope your party is frightening and delightful! Enjoy your travels! Rhonda

The hubster and I met at Halloween, so we really enjoy having fun! Hugs!!

  12. Behold as I push your remark on appreciating that we speak our minds… to the limit and so far beyond even I cannot believe I am gonna say this! As you search to find a vanity you love, I think your bathroom should take a whole new spin that would likely mean using your unique mirror elsewhere to let the vanity take center stage. Wait a minute - what?!!!

This idea has been gnawing at the back of my brain and I finally brought up the post and see you even left a comment on it so you have seen it before! You love black and white and have it throughout your house, are both photographers, and have a collection to exhibit so it seems so perfect for you!

Enter the Ikea dresser hack from the non-stoppable ever-talented Larissa at Prodigal Pieces of a Browning Camera!

    http://www.prodigalpieces.com/2015/03/box-camera-dresser-ikea-rast-hack/

You are not that craft handicapped that you could not draw the lines with frog tape and go all old school and trace some pots, plates, bowls and cups to make the circles to convert a $40 dresser to this. Hubster is skilled with the jigsaw and could install the sink and you could have the gallery wall of your vintage cameras and B&W photos. To me it seems like such a perfect fit for you two - I hope I have not offended you in suggesting a different look! I will end on that note and make like they did since 1840 and Skip to the Loo! (Pun intended as Loo is also a Scottish word for Love and cameras and photography are some of yours! lol)

    1. I do love that project that she did....it was AWESOME!! And no ma'am, you have not offended me at all....I love new ideas and suggestions because it makes me think outside the box, as Brenda said. And thank you so much for speaking your mind....that's what this is all about, for me anyway..helping me through these crazy processes when I can't see the way! The hubster and I were talking last night about using the mirror somewhere else because it may just be too much for the small space and possibly going in a different direction! Like minds...LOL. And I love the word "Loo" for a bathroom or love!!

  13. -clapping hands- Wisdom! Do not rush, just to meet a silly dead-line!

    Just enjoy your party!

Take your time, finding the purrrrrrrfect vanity for your little powder room.

You will be so much happier in the end.... Doing it this way.

Btw, I just don't "get" any of those Net Challenges or etc. I just don't. I know, it pushes you to get something done. But???? At what cost???? If you really don't like the project, when completed?

    1. Thank you so much Tessa! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the encouragement and support from you and the other ladies who comment on my blog. It truly does help me put things in perspective sometimes. I’m one of those “over-achievers” who seems to think that sometimes everything has to be done at once and I get frustrated with it all, especially when it doesn’t fall into place for me.

This was my first time to try one of the challenges. I think the idea is to help encourage everyone to get projects completed and get different ideas. Mine is a small project, but I don’t want to be dissatisfied just to meet a deadline. So, I’m good with not meeting the deadline if I don’t meet it. Our business travel comes first…it keeps a roof over my head….LOL

Pumpkin hugs and love to you!!

  14. Benita, Hahaha....nail gun and lack of hormones, do not go together well at all!! Maybe that's why my husband keeps his power tools locked in his truck!! I agree, do not rush to get a job done, when it might be something you will seriously and strongly dislike afterwards. Finish what you started in the way you want them in your own time! I didn't finish my first ORC I had issues with the rug I ordered, and there wasn't time to do the drapes I wanted to diy {thanks to you I now have an idea}! Love your Halloween pins, I went on a pinning spree! I know that when you do finish your bathroom it will be Fa-BOO-Lus!! Have fun at the party, and please do share some pics!! hugs, Christine

    1. LOL @ keeping the tools in the truck...that is hilarious!! And the nail gun is truly a dangerous weapon when it is in the hands of a hormone medication deprived woman who is frustrated with a project! :-) I'm glad the hubster has recognized this. I know where the air tank is for the nail gun, but don't know where he has hidden the actual tool part of it. Thankfully, I'm finished stressing about it and will start/finish it when I find the right piece. And thank you so much for sharing that you didn't finish your first time, that does make me feel better so that I don't think that I'm the only one. :-) Can't wait to see the curtains you make! :-) Thanks so much girl, hope you are having a wonderful week!! I will be posting some pre-party photos, hopefully, on Friday or Saturday...after I finish fixing the decorations! Hugs!!

  16. Phooey on deadlines! The only deadline that matters is taking care of yourself, and the hubster, naturally!

Life is too short not to enjoy the process, Benita.

Good grief! Have you taken time to stare in his eyes? Not the hubsters, your guest at the table who appears to be past his sale-by date!

    1. I agree and have definitely stopped stressing over this project. It will be finished when it gets finished! :-)

The hubster fixed his eyes so that they glow red....he looks a little famished to me and could definitely use some fattening up...LOL

  17. Oh Benita, I'm so glad you've decided not to over- extend yourself !! It will all come to you in time.....take a breather !!! Let the room and the house grow on you as it becomes a home . Your too detailed oriented to rush and meet a deadline for a challenge. It is a very large mirror (which I love) but it need's a substantial piece for a vanity. It took my daughter the past 10 months to get her home where she wanted and she's still tweaking her fabulous place. Slowwwwww down and enjoy the beauty you've already created :))
On another note: if I did sleep during menopause, I'm serious, I had the most bizarre dreams. My ex said he felt like he should sleep with one eye open . Lol Good idea :)) Love & hug's, TT p.s You'll get it right when the time is right !!!!

    1. Thanks so much girl! I’ve definitely decided to take a small breather on this bathroom and am not worrying about the deadline. If I use that mirror, it definitely needs something to offset it, not the small vanity…that just won’t work. And I haven’t found the right piece yet, so it will all just have to wait. I don’t want to rush to get it done and meet a deadline only to not like it at the end and have to waste time and money to redo the entire thing…I would not be a happy camper and the hubster wouldn’t be able to sleep..LOL. Menopause is one crazy thing and I’m so done with it…wish it would move away from me…LOL…that is too funny….bizarre dreams? I’ve had a few of those…LOL Love and hugs to you chick!!

  19. I'm a firm believer in regular make-overs. the idea of settling on something to live with for years is scary to me. so go and have fun with your bathroom. just don't make it too permanent. that way, you can move things around when you get tired of them or find something you like better....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I totally agree...settling on something is never a good idea, because you are never happy with it and have to end up doing it all over before you want to or are ready to. This was the first time I've entered this challenge and was putting way too much weight on a hard deadline. I feel so much better since I've let it go! :-)

      Delete
  20. Benita, you'll be glad you didn't settle--whether it's men, clothing or furniture it just never turns out well ;) Can't wait to see you find the "just right" vanity!

    1. Cecilia, I couldn't have said it better myself! Settling is never a good option and you are so right, it never turns out well, at all! I'm looking forward to finding the right one myself. Hugs to you!! :-)

  21. It is SO much more important for you to be happy with the end result than to meet a challenge deadline! You have to live with this room! It is also more important to have fun with friends at a Halloween party than to stress over a self-imposed deadline ;) We all support you and can't wait to see the finished project whenever it fits Your schedule.
I hope there will be food at the party...the guy sitting at the table looks like he could use some!

    1. Thank you so much! I realized that the stress of trying to finish on a deadline is just not worth it and that you are so right, I need to live with and love this room.
